We Need More Clorox

in A Day in the Life

The kids have been sick.  The hubs is sick.  I’m going to get sick….soon.

It’s colds, this time.

The weather is nicer today, which can be a blessing or not. We are, for the most part, stuck inside the house .  Everyone is sick to some degree or another. It’s just a virus, but still, it’s putting us out.

Alex’s cough is dry, rough and painful. It seems to jolt his whole body and at times, seems to be so hard that it’s as if he’s going to vomit; his nose is clogged. Violet has a buggery face she’s had for days, but her spirits are light, as usual. Ben’s cough comes and goes, outwitting his evening cough medicine; it’s junky, it hurts, his nose is constantly running. He vomited once on the night that he had a fever of 104.7. The fever is now down to a ‘reasonable’ range, thankfully.

One of my Aunts was nice enough to comment in an email to me about our sicknesses. In there, she mentioned her disinfecting routine of all the doors, light switches, etc when sickness abounds in her house.

Humph”, I thought while I was reading that. I hadn’t done that. CRAP. I am a bad a mother. I hadn’t really done anything like that. I didn’t have an established sicky routine. What’s wrong with me!!!! The most I did was re-organize, throw out and give away some toys and disinfect the larger and most widely used toys in the playroom. I also cleaned their window sills, table, etc with disinfectant, but that was it.

Oh yea…they touch other things. DUH MIA!!!!

So, around the house I went with Clorox Disinfectant Wipes in one hand, a Target trash bag hanging off my other wrist and I touched everything they touch, at every level! Which of course meant everything got cleaned. Whoo-Hoo.

What I learned:

  1. Violet leaves dirty food fingerprints in more places that I originally thought
  2. My house was kinda dirty
  3. Disinfectant Wipes can clean windows with no streaks. Bonus! Time Saver!
  4. It’s not that hard to clean window runners (yes I even cleaned those nasty areas).
  5. I’m not completely missing the ‘cleaning’ gene…it was just dormant
  6. I can clean my house myself and don’t need Zach to buy me cleaning service which of course means I can use that money for something else… an iPod?)
  7. If I rush around cleaning everything like this more often, I could possibly lose weight
  8. I love disinfectant wipes even more than I thought
  9. The kids amuse themselves pretty well while I clean
  10. My Aunt rocks!

Aww! I hope everyone feels better and quickly. I’ve always been amazed that Moms get sick after everyone else is starting to feel better. Is that good or bad? Not like Mom will be able to totally and completely sink into the sickness anyway – lol!

My three came along before the day of disposable wipes (which I love, too) and I used to be armed with a can of Lysol (which, as you know, kills 99% of germs on contact). Maybe it’s that 1% germ that is causing all the evil?

Talon~ I’m thinking maybe I should start spraying the whole house! Fumigating doesn’t sound too bad!

Mia, I hope it all clears up for you soon. Are you getting the sudden return of the deep freeze? Maybe that will help kill off some of those nasty germs.

I am SO against antibacterial products. Cleaning is fine… disinfecting can breed superbugs that are resistant to antobiotics. I just posted about this on my blog.

I hope you all get better soon! And pssst… my house is dirty too. ;)

Way to clean, Mia! Want to come over to our place? I am not sure we even own disinfectant wipes. We do have a bottle of Purell. Somewhere.

Talon~ I was thinking of turning the air conditioning on…do you think that would do the trick?

Vered~ I’m stuck on that one. I hear you, but want the germs gone at the same time. Maybe next time I’ll use good ‘ol fashion diluted bleach?

Seeker~ Thanks for the encouragement. The germs WILL NOT win.

Ellen~ Sadly, my house only gets clean if we’re all sick.
